Tragedy: LASU 100-Level Student Otabor Boluwatife Joseph Killed by Armed Robbers in Iba

Another young life cut short. Lagos State University, LASU, is mourning Otabor Boluwatife Joseph, a 100-level student of History and International Studies, who was attacked by armed robbers and died days later in hospital.

The incident has reignited fears about off-campus student safety in Iba/Ojo axis.

Location: Iba area, Ojo, Lagos — off-campus student housing
Victim: Otabor Boluwatife Joseph, 100-level, Dept of History & International Studies, Faculty of Arts
Incident: Armed robbers attacked his residence. Boluwatife was shot/stabbed during the attack
Death: He passed away on June 2, 2026 in hospital, 4 days after the attack

2. LASU Management Response
LASU management released a statement condemning the killing. They confirmed cooperation with police and security agencies to investigate + apprehend suspects.

The university also used the incident to warn students about off-campus safety, especially in “hot zones” around Iba, Ijanikin, and Ojo where student hostels are concentrated.

3. The Bigger Problem: Off-Campus Student Security
LASU has no accommodation for all students. 80%+ live in private hostels in Iba, Ijanikin, Okokomaiko. These areas have recorded repeated armed robbery + “one chance” attacks.
