Intro
May 15, 2026 will be remembered as a dark day for education in Oyo State. Gunmen stormed 3 schools in Ahoro-Esiele/Esiele + Yawota communities, Oriire LGA near Ogbomoso, and kidnapped ∼46 pupils and teachers. 1 teacher was killed in captivity.

Nearly 4 weeks later, the children are still missing. Here’s what we know:

1. Full Timeline of the Attack
Date/Time: Thursday, May 15, 2026, around 9:30am during school hours
Locations:

1. Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota
2. Community Grammar School, Esiele/Ahoro-Esinele
3. L.A. Primary School, Esiele
   Victims: 39 pupils aged 2-16 + 7 teachers = ∼46 people. Principal Rachael Alamu of Community High School was among them.
   Killing: Mathematics teacher Michael Oyedokun was killed while in captivity. Video of his murder circulated online later.
   Current status June 9, 2026: Victims remain in captivity. Rescue efforts ongoing.

2. Kidnappers’ Demands
Through videos released by captives, the bandits made 4 demands:

1. Release of 2 terrorist commanders in custody
2. ₦1 billion ransom
3. 2 Hilux vehicles
4. Sharia law to be enshrined in forest enclaves where they operate

Principal Rachael Alamu released videos begging FG not to politicize the case + asking Nigerians to help, not believe claims that Sharia was the only demand.

3. Government Response So Far
May 31: FG sent high-powered delegation to affected communities. President Tinubu approved recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State.
Military: Nigerian Air Force deployed surveillance aircraft + intelligence for rescue. Special rescue team intensified operations in Oriire forest.
NUT: Nigeria Union of Teachers ordered indefinite strike in Oyo State: “No teacher returns to class until our colleagues and pupils are rescued”.
Protests: Students + teachers protested across Oyo. Principal begged against politicizing the plight.

4. Why This Case is Terrifying Parents Nationwide

5. 3 Things Parents/Teachers Can Do Now

38 children + 7 teachers should be writing exams, not sitting in a forest. This is not politics. This is about whether Nigeria can protect her children.
