UNN just banned all motorcycles on campus. If you’re a UNNite, you already feel it in your legs 😂 From School Gate to Odim, from Eni-Njoku to Zik’s Flat — trekking distance just increased 100%. Here’s why UNN did it + how students are adjusting:

1. Why UNN Banned Okada – June 2026
Management announced the ban Sunday June 7 after a viral post alleged terror attack + abduction on campus. While UNN said “no credible threat”, they deployed Police + Army at entry points and closed some gates. Okada ban is part of “strengthening security + monitoring movement”.

Translation: Fewer bikes = easier to control who enters campus + reduce “getaway” options during emergencies.

2. How It’s Affecting Students Right Now

1. Trek Stress: Distance from Science Village to Agric Gate is now pure legwork. Morning lectures = sweat + lateness.
2. Late Night Movement: Night class or night reading at E-Library? No more quick okada ride back to hostel. Safety concern increased.
3. Staff Wahala: Staff who commute by okada must now park at designated spots outside campus and trek in. Some arrived late to lectures Monday.

3. 3 Legal Alternatives UNN Students Are Using

1. SUG/Campus Shuttle: If SUG buses increase trips, queue early. 7am bus = full bus.
2. Bicycle: Some students dusted old bicycles. Campus roads are hilly but it beats 40min trek.
3. “Squad Trek”: Move in groups of 4-6 for safety, especially 6pm-9pm. Share torchlight + whistle.

UNN Management’s Advice
University urged students to “remain calm, continue normal activities” and report suspicious movement to security. They also warned against spreading unverified info that causes panic.

Bottom Line
Okada ban = short-term pain for long-term security. No one likes trekking from Main Gate to Female Hostel in sun, but safety > convenience. If the terror rumour was fake, hopefully ban gets reviewed soon. If real threat exists, then this is the right call.
